Résumé

Abstract: This paper explores verbal abuse in the television series Game of Thrones through the metaphorical language it contains. It is grounded on Critical Metaphor Analysis and its three-level analysis of metaphors: linguistic, conceptual and pragmatic. The data consist in dialogue excerpts. They are taken from the first two episodes of the first season of Game of Thrones. The metaphorical language found in the excerpts is in italics. It is shown in a table with their contexts of appearance. The metaphorical language is analyzed from the perspective of metafunctions, conceptual domains and conceptual keys. The results and the discussion indicate that the metaphorical language in the selected excerpts convey insults, accusations and threats.
